At all stages of a photographic digitization project, you will be actively developing, capturing, and managing metadata to support the use and preservation of digital images. This workshop will identify standards, strategies, and tools appropriate for creating photographic image metadata, as well as highlight key decision points in metadata management and use.  Hands-on activities will enhance the understanding of best practices for creating metadata that facilitates searchability of digital image collections.  

Topics will include:

  • Standards, best practices, and vocabularies for image description
  • Non-descriptive, embedded, and automated metadata capture
  • Strategies and tools for creating and managing metadata
  • Packaging, sharing, and re-using metadata
  • Leveraging user-contributed metadata

The Academy of Certified Archivists will award 5 Accreditation Recertification Credits (ARCs) to eligible Certified Archivists (CAs) attending this workshop.
