Fundamentals of Framing Series F179 Preservation Framing for Photographs: A Preservation Scientist's Perspective Monday, January 30, 2012 : 3:30pm - 5:30pm • Daniel Burge Have you ever wondered why photographs sometimes fade, yellow, mirror, or become brittle when displayed in frames? This session will provide you with all the information you need to know to prevent this type of damage to your photography. Daniel Burge, a preservation scientist with over 20 years experience, will provide his expert insight on the materials and practices essential for framing and displaying photographs. Historical examples of damaged photos will be used to demonstrate why they decayed and what could have been done to prevent this.

Fundamentals of Framing Series F184 Digital Print Identification Tuesday, January 31, 2012 : 1pm - 3pm • Daniel Burge Identifying digital prints in today's market can be a challenging task. This class will provide an overview of the history, technologies, and materials used in digital printing in order to give you the knowledge and skills you will need to identify your customer's prints, including inkjet, electrophotography, and dye sublimation. Practice with real examples of each process will give you a better understanding of what you'll encounter on a daily basis. Daniel will also take a look at how modern digital prints compare with the traditional prints like offset lithography and traditional color photography. The vulnerabilities of each type of print will be covered so you can handle, frame, and display digital prints safely. As an added bonus, the Image Permanence Institutes free online interactive Print Comparison Tool will be demonstrated, providing you with an easy reference for the future and put you one step ahead in the world of digital printing. |
